Which of the following myths are true
and which are false.

A typical fluorescent lamp will last 15,000 - 20,000 hours.

Many four foot fluorescent tubes are rated at an average of 20,000 hours. This is only an average and thus could exceed the ratted average bulb life.

A typical household lamp will last an average of 10,000 hours.

I've never seen a typical household lamp with this high of a rating. An average life for a typical lamp is 750-2000 hours. A 480 lamp life is the lowest I've seen. I have purchased 5000 hour lamps at 60 watts typically.

Light bulbs aren't what they used to be.

This is a true statement. Most of the time when you hear something is not what it used to be, it means the product is not as good as it used to be. This is only half right with a light bulb. Light bulb manufactures have had to cut cost over the years to stay in competition with over seas markets. This has lead to a "lesser grade" lamp.
On the other hand, manufactures have had to stay up to date with federal regulations. The regulations make the lamp manufactures get more light out of their lamps, using less electricity. So - bulbs aren't what they used to be!

More people are killed on 120 volts than higher voltages.

This is true because of the ratio of people that come in contact with 120 volts verses higher voltages.

It is safe to have a radio by a tub only if it is plugged into a ground fault outlet.

It is never 100% safe to have electrical devices around any water source. The National Electric Code does require ground fault protection for around tubs (210-8. Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel
(a) Dwelling Units. All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in the locations specified below shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.
1. Bathrooms.) . A ground fault protected outlet would still give a jolt (non-fatal) to anyone that would be in the tub. This is if the GFI was in proper working order.

A yellow light bulb will detract night flying bugs.

I've never read a good explanation for why yellow light will not attract night flying insects. I have only heard one theory. It goes as follows, through evolution, the insects that were attracted to the yellow light of the fires were killed off. Thus, only those insects that were not attracted to yellow light were left. ????
